The way that BuddyPress handles group creations needs SERIOUS work. It basically short-circuits all spam protections, resulting in the horrendous mess you most likely witnessed here.
I’ve cleaned up most of the spammers. Let me know if I missed anything egregious. This, unfortunately, still has to be a manual process. *sigh*
